White corundum is produced from industrial alumina powder, which is melted in an arc furnace at a temperature exceeding 2000 degrees and then cooled. The resulting material undergoes grinding and shaping. This is followed by magnetic separation of iron and particle size screening to yield different products. White corundum features a tight texture, high hardness, and angular shape, making it perfectly suited for various applications such as the manufacture of ceramics, resin consolidation abrasive tools, grinding, polishing, sandblasting, and even high-grade refractory materials.
Compared with brown corundum, white corundum has slightly higher hardness but lower toughness. It is also characterized by high purity, excellent self-sharpening, strong grinding capacity, low heat generation, high efficiency, and resistance to both acid and alkali corrosion and high temperature thermal stability. Moreover, the use of white corundum does not affect the workpiece color. It can be used for sandblasting during the process where iron powder residue is not allowed and its micro-powder version is suitable for wet sandblasting and grinding operations. The material's high processing speed and quality performance are also noteworthy. The amount of iron oxide is low, making it perfect for sandblasting without any iron residue.

The compressive strength of white corundum is 2,000 MPa, while the tensile strength is 400 MPa. The flexural strength is 480 MPa.
White corundum has a thermal expansion coefficient of 8×10^-6 K^-1 and a thermal conductivity of 29 W/(m-K). It also exhibits high temperature stability, which allows it to withstand extremely high temperatures.
